The Mourning Wood is found in the Pleasanton Mall. When you first visit, a father and son will be holed up, waiting out the zombie hoard. Fight off the zombies and he'll reward your heroics by making you his errand boy (or girl). Oh joy!

Item One: Gas Pump
In order to find the gas pump you first have to be turned into a zombie by the Faunted Family. (See Z.E.L.L.O. quest). Once you are a zombie go into the Full Service Gas Station and the Pumpmaster will give you the pump. Make sure you keep it in your inventory because he will keep giving them to you if you don't. Once you have it, you can talk to Mayor Brian to turn human again and return the Pump to Gepedo.
That Was A Real Gas
"Excellent, you got the gas pump! This little guy is going to be used to inject fuel into the main eng... err, well, that's not important right now. What's important is that you got the pump. My son and I are both quite pleased!"

Quest Two: Intact Visor
"The next item on the list is an Intact Visor. I own some broken ones that I found laying around the Townshire Junkyard, so I have a feeling a creature near there will have one in mint condition. I know this is sort of a random aside, but the ones I have in disarray all seem to have some cat hair clinging to them. My little boy is allergic to cats, though, so I had to throw them out."
In the Lol Catacombs, wait for Kittkat (a cat with Geordi LeForge type visor) to show up. Kill him violently and take his visor.
Seeing Is Believing
"Aaah, the visor! Wherever did you find one in such amazing condition? I hope this thing doesn't work like a black light, though. I've uh, I've got some stains from pets and what have you."

Item Three: Industrial Tether
Good Tether Weather
"Alright, <name>, we're doing really well. This next one might be a bit trickier. In the Townshire Junkyard lives a mighty beast called the Trash Golem. Among its grotesque innards includes none other than an Industrial Tether. He uses it like an intestine or something, I don't know.
Anyway, that's what I need! It's the only thing strong enough to support the hydraulics for the, err, the thing. And the stuff."
"Aha, the Tether! Really great work, <name>. While you've been out collecting these parts for me, my boy and I have been hard at work here, building away. I'd say we're making really good progress!
"Soon my son will be able to go to a public school, get a part time job, and maybe even meet a nice young girl from Townshire. I'm all over the idea of grandchildren, you know!"
Ha ha, I'll bet you are.

Zombie Attack 2: The Zombie-ing
While you continue your awkward conversation with Gepedo, you hear the faint but all-too-familiar moans of a zombie invasion! Gepedo's skin gets pale as he peers between the boards of his wooden fortress. "Look, <name>, another wave of zombies! You have to protect us!" Quivering with fear Gepedo grabs hold of his little wooden boy and squeezes him tight.
I uhh, I don't think he'll be helping you with the zombies.
>let me at 'em!
Save me Twice, Shame on me
As the zombie incursion wanes, you return to Gepedo's Shop to find him huddled in a corner with his little wooden boy. "Phew that was close! I'm starting to regret voting 'No' on the proposition to teach children like you how to defend yourselves."
"Anyhow, I've acquired nearly half the parts I need to get my invention in working order. Keep at it and I promise I'll find a way to make it up to you."

Item Four: Iron Boots
Gone Fishin' ...For Alloy
"Back in the old days, divers would use Iron Boots to explore the bottoms of Elanthia's lakes and oceans. The term "iron" is a misnomer however, as the metal they used was actually an incredibly rare alloy from a land called Eyerool.
"Since you can't just go diving around the local waterin' holes, you're going to have to fish a pair out somewhere. You'll need to find a place that lets you do that, though; Bread Basket has a strict 'No Fishing' policy and I can't think of any other bodies of water nearby."
"You got the boots, bravo! Did you hear that, son? Sir <name> got the boots! We can now melt this alloy down and turn it into the armor casing for the ro...ro... the rotary system! Yeah, that's it. All good inventions totally require rotary systems."
Item Five: Cybernetic Eye
Eye For A Cybernetic Eye.
"A Cybernetic Eye, child. That is what we need. You can find one of these from the Bunnies in the jungles of Trainwreck. In the meantime the boy and I will continue working 'round the clock to finish this device we've been building. He's such a little trooper, I never heard a single complaint out of him!"
Something tells me complaints aren't the only thing he doesn't hear from his PIECE OF WOOD WITH EYES DRAWN ON IT.
"Great find, <name>! This Cybernetic Eye will be incredibly helpful when I integrate it with the scanning systems on the head-mounted network arraaaaay-hey! Did I ever tell you what a handsome young person you are? So vivacious and full of life. Boy howdy I'm telling you what, they don't make kids like you anymore."
Item Six: Alien Wreckage
The Part Is Out There
"We are nearing the half way point of this incredible journey, my friend. The parts I need, however, are going to get exponentially more difficult to acquire. Perils and danger will plague your quest, I'm afraid, but our work must go on!"
Yeah whatever you say, Crazy McCraze-Craze.
"My son told me about a strange alien vessel that has apparently crash-landed somewhere in Bread Basket recently. That place is huge, though, so hopefully you won't be going in circles all day. I'd like you to investigate the crash site and collect some of the wreckage for me. Good luck!"
Adventure in the Crop Circles in Bread Basket wearing a tin gel hat. The hat can be crafted with tin gel and a bowler hat. The tin gel can be obtained by killing monsters in the The Pantry of Ill Omen and the bowler hat can be obtained by killing a Goon'ter in Damned Dirty Apes . You can not adventure in Damned Dirty Apes unless you are wearing a monkey suit. You can also obtain a bowler hat from Odd Jabba located at the Camp Site. NOTE: You MUST Adventure in the Crop Circles BEFORE trying to get the Bowler Hat and Tin Gel.
UFO? More Like OMG
"Welcome back, <name>! Boy, you were sure gone a while. No issues, I trust? Anyway, my boy and I were just in the shop, toiling away at our only chance for salvation. It's quite liberating work, really. And with this wreckage in hand, I can begin work on duplicating the heat-resistant infrastructure of the armor plating, which should let the weapons syst-ahems! Syst-ahem! Mmm, frog stuck in my throat."
Zombies 3: Revenge of the Zombies
"My invention is nearing completion, and with it I can save my son from this dreadful mall. In fact, we're making record time here. The only thing that could possibly slow me down now is a..."
Don't say it, old man. Don't you dare say it!
Great. Just great.
> Here they come!!
...And Some Popsicles In The Fridge
Covered in an assortment of zombie juices, you head back inside Gepedo's Shop. The impish man eyes you oddly. "I've got some towels in the washroom, why don't we dry you off?" Umm, pass.
"Well either way I thank you for your troubles. Just a few more materials and my invention will be ready! Eeeep, I can't wait for you to see it!"
Item Seven: Hydraulic Jumping Apparatus
Hop To It!
"Next on the list of materials I need is a special Hydraulic Jumping Apparatus. You should be able to harvest one from the cybernetic frogs in the Trainwreck jungles. Personally I don't understand why anyone would swap in mechano-legs for the real thing. I'm sure they're not nearly as tasty when you deep fry them."
"Ah, these must be the hydraulic jumping legs I asked for. Their spring-loaded action will greatly aid in the shock absorption for the battering ram."
Gepedo looks at you blankly. "What? Why are you staring at me like tha-oh! Did I say battering ram? I very clearly meant to say dynamic hashing parameters. Yeah, those legs will be really good for parameter hashing."
Item Eight: Cranium-Mounted Satellite Array
Appetite For A Satellite
"Cranium-Mounted Satellite Array: ever heard of it? No? Well that's too bad, because that's exactly what I need from you next. The Antelope in the jungles of Trainwreck can probably fix you up with one. Not by their own admission, of course. But the life of a single robotic antelope cannot be compared to the life of my son.
"Besides, what's an antelope doing in the jungle, anyway? Serves it right for trying to live in a habitat clearly not suited for a mammal of its size."
"Ah, the satellite! This is one of the most important pieces to my invention, as it's responsible for relaying communications between the cockpit and the engine bay. Oh, funny story about the engine bay! You see..." Gepedo trails off as he realizes he's said too much yet again.
"Funny story about the engine bay is that it absolutely doesn't exist. Nope. Not even real. Isn't that wild?"
Item Nine: Monkey Wrench
Throw A Wrench Into The Situation
"We're very close now, <name>! There are but two pieces missing from this puzzle of mine. And with your help, I'll soon have them, and then my boy and I can escape this mall forever!
"All of the parts you've delivered thus far as worthless without a tool in which ti apply them. That is why I need a Wrench, you see? But the only wrench strong enough belongs to the Monkey Wrenches of The Mangle, in Trainwreck.
"Now as an advocate of E.A.T.E.M., I think it's only humane to pick a creature that is near the end of its life. Find a Sickly Monkey Wrench, weaken it in battle, and then use something sharp to perform the amputation. I'm really counting on your for this one, <name>."
"I was worried that you wouldn't be strong-willed enough to handle this request, <name>, but you did well. With this wrench, I can begin tightening the lug nuts and bolts that secure the neck to the chassis of the machine. The machine meaning the giant robot I'm building in my shop. That one."
"No wait! I meant to say that the wrench will be used for wrench-like activities, including tightening, loosening, and anything you might expect from a spanner."
> We almost done?
After giving Gepedo the wrench and continuing to his last item briefing, you will encounter Monsterro, the zombie whale (level 11) in a boss fight, so be prepared before proceeding.
Zombie Attack: The Director's Cut
"There is only one more thing I need, <name>, but it's a little ...unorthodox. You see..." Gepedo's voice is suddenly drowned out by a bellowing roar from outside his shop. The sound is just like every large, slow-moving creature from every movie and game you've ever seen. You know the one.
Gepedo gets even paler than his usual egg-shell-white glow. "It's...it's him. Mon-sterro. The whale of whales. He'll devour a storefront whole." So yeah, this is probably going to end badly.
"You defeated Mon-sterro! Unbelievable! And it looks like you managed to get some Semi-Precious Amber Grits to boot! The shopkeepers in Elanthia will offer you a fortune for that stuff! I hear it goes great in chowders.
"But I digress, with the Zombie Whale dead, I can finally focus on completing my invention and escaping the mall with my little boy. Are you ready, <name>?"
You find a Semi-Precious Amber Grits!
> Let's finish this!
Item Ten: Peek-At-You
A Shocking Revelation
"The last thing I need to complete my invention is a source of power. I need enough electricity to jump-start the invention and set it into motion. I have no idea what this 'electricity in a box' might actually end up being, unfortunately, but what I can tell you is that a tiny bolt of lightning wouldn't be nearly potent enough."
"The only lead I have came from the wee one here. He says he's heard rumors of power surges going on in Nostalgya. Luckily, after years of being closed to the public, Nostalgya recently had its grand reopening! Oh, how I wish my boy and I could visit that wondrous theme park ourselves..." Gepedo's eyes glisten with tears as he looks at his plank of wood. "One day, son. One day."
After finishing Sage Eru's quest to return his missing children, adventure in the Warp Zone until you encounter Team Mock-It. Depending on you answer, you either have to fight Mock-It, suffer extreme damage, or they willingly give it up (and give you a buff to boot). In any case, you get the Peek-at-You pet from them. Go back to your dorm room, add the pet to your crate, select it as your active pet and then return to Gepedo. Loan him your Peek-At-You pet and his invention will be revealed. He will escape the mall (achievement!) and the quest will be complete. Adventuring in the now Pile of Mourning Wood you can find a Little Wooden Boy pet and a Plank of Wood item, (same as those that you acquire if you visit Mourning Wood while a zombie before completing the quest) which you will need for another quest (Veneer and Far).
From time to time when you bring items back, you'll have to fight off four or five zombies, so it's probably a good idea to heal first if you're banged up.
